PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

Please obtain your History and Physical and all testing to insure that the results are faxed (513-354-3707) to the Surgical Center within 48 hours prior to your surgery.

The preoperative nurse will be calling you before your surgery. Please be prepared for her to review the medication(s) you are taking.

Two weeks prior to surgery: Stop all herbal preparations and Vitamine E
One week prior to surgery: Stop all Aspirin containing medicine (e.g. Anacin, Excedrin, Pepto-Bismol)
Five days prior to surgery: Stop all nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications e.g. Etodolac, Lodine, fenoprofen – Nalfon, ibuprofen – Advil, Motrin, Nuprin, ketorolac – Toradol, meclofenamate – Meclomen, Mefenamec Acid – Ponestal, naproxen – Anaprox, Naprosyn, Aleve and Coumadin

She will instruct you as to what medicine to take prior to surgery. INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETICS NEED TOO CHECK WITH THEIR FAMILY DOCTOR AS TO INSTRUCTION FOR TAKING INSULIN ON SURGERY DAY.

If you experience any significant change in your health status or develop a cold or influenza, bladder infection, diarrhea, or other infection before surgery notify your surgeon. Also, please notify your surgeon if there is any redness, swelling, or skin eruptions at the surgical site.

YOU MAY NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO EAT OR DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY!

If you will be out of town the week before surgery, please call the nurse at 513-354-3759 to complete your surgery requirements.

Please wear comfortable clothing to the Surgical Center, preferably elastic waists (i.e. gym shorts or sweats NO JEANS) and large shirts.

A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN TO SIGN THE OPERATIVE CONSENT FORM MUST ACCOMPANY ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18.

You should make arrangements in advance for someone to help you when you return home after surgery.

If instructed by your physician to have physical therapy, you will need to schedule your first therapy appointment to begin as indicated by your physician. Please make this appointment in advance to insure your therapy will begin in the time frame as indicated. It is also important that you check with your insurance company to validate that the facility you choose for physical therapy is in network for your insurance plan.
